The school's size and location are the biggest advantages over other schools. They're located right in the center of a busy town, where students can easily walk to Starbucks, many restaurants, shops, a grocery store, etc. We're also located 15 minutes by car to the city of Portland and 90 minutes from Boston. Our size (1500 students) is also a major advantage as our students can truly get immersed in American culture (90% of our students are American), and it also has the ability to offer over 200 classes, over 50 athletic teams, over 50 after school clubs, and more.
Finalist in 2024 and 2022 for the ST Best Secondary School in North America Award.

About campus
Thornton Academy is located in the heart of a small, safe town, offering students the option to stay in a boarding house, dormitory, or homestay. The campus is within walking distance of restaurants and shops, just five minutes from the beach, 15 minutes from Portland, and 90 minutes from Boston, with nearby airports (BOS and PWM) providing easy travel options, including a one-hour flight to New York. The expansive campus features many modern facilities, and construction will soon begin on a new athletic center and fitness facility for students.
